7 Things You Should Know About IPAS

Abstract

IPAS is an institutional capability to create shared ownership for educational progress by providing students, faculty, and staff with holistic information and services that contribute to the completion of a degree or other credential. Calls for improvements in student success have prompted a growing number of colleges and universities to pursue efforts that combine analytics, planning, advising, and early alerts to help guide students to completion of degrees or other credentials. These programs often use data and systems already in place on a campus but in a unified manner that can pay dividends in student engagement, persistence, and success.

EDUCAUSE is contributing to student success initiatives with a growing collection of resources, including an ECAR research project which investigates IPAS benchmarking; data and systems integration; implementation; and assessment and evaluation.

The 7 Things You Should Know About... series from the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI) provides concise information on emerging learning technologies. Each brief focuses on a single technology and describes what it is, where it is going, and why it matters to teaching and learning. Use these briefs for a no-jargon, quick overview of a topic and share them with time-pressed colleagues.

In addition to the 7 Things briefs, you may find other ELI resources useful in addressing teaching, learning, and technology issues at your institution. To learn more, please visit the ELI Resources page.
