Abstract
What is the role of information technology in a campus-wide reengineering effort? This article explores the dependency of successful reengineering on a solid information infrastructure and offers two approaches for facilitating institution-wide access to the "knowledge base": one that maintains the existing IT infrastructure and surrounds it with an enterprise-wide system, the other that sees the surround approach only as the beginning of a reengineering process to sustain efficient, reliable, and maintainable systems.
