The major focus of this presentation is to explain how Ferris State University is modifying a traditional mainframe on-line purchasing system to support a more efficient reengineered purchasing process. This presentation will benefit anyone who supports, uses, or wishes to implement a decentralized on-line purchasing system in a university setting.The overall philosophy behind our reengineered purchasing process is that there are really only two stakeholders involved: the customer and the vendor. The customer has a personal interest in obtaining a quality product in a timely manner at a competitive price. The vendor is interested in satisfying the customer order by providing good service and receiving timely payment. The FSU process is designed to empower the customer to deal directly with the vendor whenever possible, thus satisfying another important vendor need to resolve any problems. Paperwork and bottlenecks have been significantly reduced while maintaining adequate control and accountability.
