Abstract
This presentation will illustrate how one institution has expanded the level of service provided to its students in an effective and efficient manner. Sinclair Community College offers its students convenient access via touch-screen kiosks to campus information, personal student records, and automated academic advising using expert system technology. The kiosk system consists of software that operates on microcomputers that are networked to Sinclair's administrative systems and centralized databases, through a common file server. The kiosks are located in public access areas most frequented by students. The presenters will demonstrate the functions of the software, including accessing student transcripts, open/closed course sections, campus maps, and automated academic advising modules to assist students select an academic major, and the number of credit hours to take. The presenters will share their experiences during the design, development, and implementation of the system, and also provide student feedback.
