Abstract
Colorado State University has created a broadly based campus partnership to produce five administrative applications. These client/server applications address the five keystones of University administration: Finances, Human Resources, Research, Undergraduate Students, and Graduate Students. Finances and Human Resources rely on electronic document approvals and automated flow control, while the other applications are primarily read/review. By conference time, two of these applications will be in production, two will be in beta testing, and one will be in prototyping.The presentation describes the case history of this successful project with special emphasis on the practical aspects of developing client/server applications, the impacts of shifting from a mainframe- based environment to a desktop environment, and the process of negotiating a collaborative environment among the campus' administrative community. Presenters will also provide insights into the pitfalls of client/server administrative development.
