Strategic Information Resources: A New Organization

Abstract

In February 1994, Gettyburg College formed a new division: Strategic Information Resources. The new Vice President was charged with merging the existing library and computing departments into a new organization. A consulting firm was hired to facilitate business process re-engineering for the new division. We will share with the audience the steps involved in the re-engineering effort, the pitfalls and the successes. In order to meet our vision of what will be possible in the year 2000, we believe we must begin now. The library as an institution will be fundamentally changed. This change will also effect the way educational institutions function. We are removing barriers and facilitating change. Paper presented at CAUSE94, the full proceedings of which are available through this Library as PUB1094.
