Student Transactions Via the Web

Abstract

Stanford students now register, apply for housing, see course and grades, file study lists, update addresses, and take care of many other administrative tasks via the World Wide Web. This new application is popular with both students and administrative units. It is appealing, easy to learn and use, and very accessible both day and night. It communicates with existing legacy data on the mainframe, but with an up-to-date, easy to use interface. The system has a very positive effect on mainframe resources, allowing it to be continuously available during peak times of the day. Most importantly, however, much desired added functionality is now a reality.
