Academic Access Rights

As scholarly publishing on the Internet becomes increasingly familiar, so do stories of vulnerability and discussions of access rights. The author explores the legalities and campus politics embedded in electronic access issues, and warns that access should not be left solely in the hands of the administration or the faculty. He provides a list of provisions to be considered when drafting an access rights policy and suggests that such a policy is necessary as scholarly work migrates from print to electronic media. Parallel issues outside of academia are also addressed.
