Abstract
This paper describes Duke University's reengineered procurement process. The University is in the process of implementing this redesigned business process, which is supported by new technology and a new organization. The project required a team effort from several groups, including administrative information technology staffs, functional departments, and vendors. This was Duke's first major project that required a technology infrastructure to support client/server computing. The implementation was led by an executive committee composed of senior administrators; a steering committee, made up of division heads; and a hands-on management team, composed of senior staff from the information technology, procurement, and reengineering departments.
