Abstract
By migrating its student administrative system from the mainframe to the Web, Stanford University provides functionality for students in an easy to learn and use format. This Web-based system allows students to register, apply for housing, see courses and grades, file study lists, update addresses, and more. This paper describes Stanford's effort, covering the background, architectural approach, issues and problems faced and how Stanford solved them, and what's next.
