Campus Profiles: Northwestern University and Wake Forest University

Abstract

Northwestern University and Wake Forest University received honorable mentions for the 1998 CAUSE Awards for Excellence in Campus Networking. Northwestern,a private research university with campuses in Evanston and Chicago, serves 18,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The article provides an overview of NUNet (Northwestern's campus data network), Northwestern's partnerships in high-speed networking throughout the greater Chicago region, and Northwestern's involvement in the University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development (UCAID) and the Internet2 project. Wake Forest University, a private liberal arts institution in Winston-Salem, NC, has an enrollment of approximately 6,000 students. With Wake Forest University's ThinkPad program, every undergraduate student is issued a laptop upon arrival. The article also describes the university's campus network, multimedia classrooms, and their technology partnerships with the community.
