Abstract
This paper explains the Computing and Support Unit of the Accounting and Financial Services Department of the University of Santa Barbara's implementation of a MICR-laser check printing technology. UCSB chose ACOM MICR-laser check processing solution. This paper highlights the situation that led to a new system, specifications for the new system, and challenges in implementing it. The new technology allowed the department to (a) reduce printing cost, (b) simplify, streamline and dramatically accelerate the check production process, (c) reduce personnel time spent issuing checks of all kinds, and (d) assure management that they were utilizing the most current check fraud detection and intervention methodology available.
