Duke University Architecture Planning Process


As Duke University began multiple initiatives, such as the reengineering of administrative and student systems, the deployment of collaborative applications for electronic mail, calendar scheduling, and workflow applications, several key issues arose that required a level of cooperation and collaboration beyond the traditional planing process. This paper describes the process used at Duke to ensure an integrated approach between the information technology infrastructure and the institution's goals and objectives. The paper discusses the mission of the Technical Architecture Standing Committee, the planning and implementation process, the issues that the committee addressed, the standards that were adopted, and the lessons learned.
