Abstract
It is hoped that, some day, digital technologies will make knowledge and information available, expediently and without barriers through gigabit networks and digital libraries. The technologies and events that combined are called "digital library" are presented. The potential is contrasted with technology misconceptions and potential social risks. This paper summarizes the EDUCAUSE '99 presentation about the Tufts University Smart Digital Library prototype projects.
