So complete and significant are the changes to institutional business from the Web that a radical new business model has resulted: e-business. E-business is not simply "business on the Web" but a critical new model for the institutional enterprise. Whereas early Web applications introduced the efficiencies of electronic business, current e-business applications address the effectiveness of business processes. Today's e-business solutions break the molds of organizational identity and process ownership, shifting the power from service provider to campus consumer. This presentation will trace the evolution of institutional business from manual, paper-based processes through Web-based electronic forms and routing, to customer-oriented decision support systems.
