Shaping Student Information Systems to Deliver Service in the 21st Century

Abstract

UBC has chosen the Internet and Java as the vehicles to deliver the Student Service Center, Faculty Service Center, and the Student Information Service Center to meet the needs of our customers. This presentation will provide the background that led to the development of UBC's service centers. Presenters will discuss the University's decision to build rather than buy, development methodologies and tools, and the user involvement on the project. Also to be discussed are the opportunities and challenges encountered, and what is planned for the future. A brief demonstration of the centers will be provided.
