Abstract
The era of extreme centralization of information technology using mainframe architecture with heavy bureaucracy and lack of flexibility is over. But the extremes of distributed computing led to chaos, inefficiency, and frustration on the part of researchers and technologists. The solution is to provide a climate that allows academic freedom while bringing all departments under one umbrella. The keys to this solution are communication, diplomacy, and the realization of common interests.
