Abstract
Deploying formal project management in a university IT department can be quite challenging when the organization has a culture of inconsistent practices and general apathy toward project management. This presentation suggests that acceptance of formal project management requires change in entrenched beliefs and attitudes while building a new culture compatible with project management methods. Efforts to introduce formal project management in the administrative IT department at Michigan State University serve as an example.
