Library Mobile Computing Project

Abstract

This presentation discusses the Indiana State University Library's Mobile Computing Project is a multifaceted project using wireless and other technologies to provide students with the capability to move freely around the library during their information quests. Students are able to check out hand-held scanners and copy library material any where in the library in Phase One. Phase Two will provide students with PDAs and wireless network cards allowing to them to access the library's online catalog, web databases and "chat" electronically with reference librarians. In Phase Three students will be able to ascertain where material can be found in the library's stacks by querying the Book Locator.
