Everything (Well, Almost Everything) I Needed to Know About Leadership I Learned from Ivy

Abstract

Leadership involves learning and development on both the part of the leader and the organization being led. This process involves the development of a deep relationship in which both parties learn basic skills, learn to communicate effectively with each other, and, most importantly, learn to trust each other. In recent years I have had the opportunity to view the concept of leadership from a different perspective -- through the canine sport of Agility with my dog Ivy. In this talk I want to reflect on some of the lessons I learned in this context and draw an analogy between those lessons and leadership within human organizations.
