Abstract
Duke University's Arts and Sciences embraced the distributed computing model to leverage economies of scale in the context of academic differentiation. The model's key features are departmental computing budgets, "Faculty Computer Liaisons," and a mixture of local and central IT staff that work in functional teams across administrative units.
