Abstract
This ECAR research bulletin takes a forward-looking view of the CIO role, identifying critical skills and competencies required for strategic partnership in 2012 and beyond, based on a review of the literature and conversations and quantitative input from current IT professionals. Top considerations for structuring IT to provide institutional support in the 2020s are also discussed. Finally, some creative roles for the CIO in the “new normal” are identified.
