EDUCAUSE Comments: Support for Lingua Editors, Open Access

Abstract

EDUCAUSE joined with the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), the American Council on Education (ACE), and related organizations to release a letter of support for the former editors of Lingua, a linguistics journal published by Elsevier. The editors resigned from the publication to protest Elsevier’s unwillingness to modify its pricing policies and publication practices to better reflect academic values and economic realities. At the same time, they announced their intention to establish a new journal, Glossa, that would follow a “fair open access model,” in which pricing for access and publication would align with higher education’s research mission and the public’s interest in the research it funds.
