Journey Toward Eliminating Oppressive Language

Abstract

The racial awakening in the wake of the murders of Breona Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, and other Black Americans has caused many higher ed institutions to look at how they can root out discrimination, including in the language they use.

During this thought-provoking conversation, from the IT Communications Community Group, three panelists share efforts that are underway on their campuses, and together with session participants explore alternatives to oppressive terminology embedded in our websites, code repositories and beyond.
