Training and Managing Student Employees in the Computer Center


This article describes methods used by the Academic Computer Center at Haverford College for hiring, training, and managing student employees, including both successful and unsuccessful experiences. Problems encountered in managing students are discussed, and incentives for improving performance are suggested. The author offers guidance concerning appropriate roles and expectations for student employees in a computer center. Much of the analysis is based on responses to aquestionnaire distributed to current and former employees at Haverford.
