Distance Education: Are We Being Realistic?

Abstract

There is a great deal of excitement about distance learning. Unfortunately, the evangelical zeal of some and determined resistance of others has made this a polarizing issue. What is all too often missing is a serious contemplation of the markets to be served, an examination of the assumptions we instinctively make about education and the impact of pedagogy and technology on our traditional institutions. This presentation looks at facts, assumptions, and implications to move beyond hype and hyperbole.
