Putting Java to Work at UCSD: A Success Story

Abstract
For the last several years several groups at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) have been pursuing active software development using Java. We represent two of these groups and this paper shares some of our experiences and thoughts related to using Java to develop programs which are primarily designed to support administrative users in a university environment. While we have not found any mysterious previously unpublished secrets about Java we can share with you, we believe that we have learned much that can aid others who plan to use Java or are using Java for the same sorts of tasks that we have.
