Abstract
Data warehousing, a relatively new technology developed to provide users with information access, is growing rapidly. As schools begin to work on these vital systems, they are by and large creating servers full of extract files. The Dimensional Model, a data model developed explicitly for end-user querying and used extensively in the private sector, has so far received little interest by academia. This presentation outlines the Dimensional Model, illustrates its place in the data warehouse, defines many of its terms, and explains how it is applied to student record systems.
