Inventing a Better Wheel: Building a Web-Based Course Approval System


The University of California, Davis, Registrar's Office has built a Web-based system for formal course approval, featuring electronic "routing" of course requests, automatic e-mail notification, distributed user assignment, course templates, a public course archive, and a supporting instructional Web site. We'll cover the development process, difficulties (resource shortages, early deployment, unusually rapid adoption across campus), successes, and future plans.
