Next Gen Tools: Hiring for Mindset

Abstract

Because teachers are the most important school-based factor for student success, hiring matters. Hiring for mindset involves a performance-based experience, where current students and teachers have a strong voice in the selection process, and a candidate’s fit with school culture has at least equal weight with performance and content knowledge.

This innovation brief from Next Generation Learning Challenges (NGLC) is part of a series of briefs that describes tools and strategies from the NGLC network of breakthrough model grant recipients in both K-12 and higher education. The Next Gen Tools briefs are intended for practitioners within and outside of the network who wish to learn about emerging practices with an eye toward future implementation.

An initiative of EDUCAUSE, NGLC supports the educators who are reimagining public education—from helping them take what they know about learning and apply it to school design, to issuing challenge grants that enable practitioners to completely redesign their schools. To learn more about NGLC, visit nextgenlearning.org.
