Abstract
On June 27, 2023, EDUCAUSE submitted a cover letter and comments to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in response to its request for input on the resources that it could develop to support research cybersecurity at colleges and universities. EDUCAUSE urged NIST to convene dialogue sessions with EDUCAUSE member representatives, which would allow research cybersecurity leaders and professionals to provide more informed feedback on the subject. In the interim, EDUCAUSE proposed a number of options that NIST might consider pursuing. For example, member input led EDUCAUSE to suggest that NIST lead the development of research cybersecurity resources for academic researchers and their teams in addition to curating resources from existing research cybersecurity entities. EDUCAUSE also recommended that NIST work to develop resources that would help grow research cybersecurity as a profession, given the unique needs of the field and unmet demand for research cybersecurity leaders and professionals.
