EDUCAUSE Comments: Possible NSF Development of a Research Security and Integrity Information Sharing and Analysis Organization (RSI-ISAO)

Abstract

EDUCAUSE provided a response to the National Science Foundation (NSF) on June 27, 2023, regarding its request for comments on the possible development of a research security and integrity information sharing and analysis organization (RSI-ISAO). EDUCAUSE encouraged NSF to connect with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the ISAO Standards Organization (ISAO SO) that DHS supports to better understand ISAO roles and functions. EDUCAUSE also stressed the importance of NSF coordinating with relevant, sector-specific information sharing and analysis centers (ISACs), such as the Research and Education Networks ISAC, or REN-ISAC, as part of the RSI-ISAO development process. Given the long-standing work of REN-ISAC in support of higher education research institutions, EDUCAUSE made the point that REN-ISAC, as well as other ISACs from related areas, should form the foundation of the ISAO’s cross-sector incident tracking and response function.
