Our business is very volatile. Our institutions are changing, our organizations are changing, and many folks in senior positions in higher education IT organizations are finding themselves making job or career changes, sometimes by their own choice, sometimes because their institutions no longer have positions that fit them well. We count many colleagues who made changes last year and many who are in transition right now. Transitions are very difficult. This paper explores reasons that we might leave a position (or be asked to leave), attitudes and skills that will help us through transition time, and life at the new beginning.
