Abstract
This paper provides an overview of the inter-relationships between four models for teaching and learning adopted by institutions of higher education: on campus, distance education, open learning, and flexible delivery and learning systems. Descriptive characteristics of this latest paradigm are presented, and key issues are identified to help an institution create a suitable environment to support the transition towards implementing these new teaching and learning systems. Experiences of the University of Southern Queensland are shared about a system, called USQconnect, that has been developed utilizing the latest Internet and intranet technologies to offer educational resources and support services to students throughout the world.
