Abstract
This commentary highlights the need for a national infrastructure to support library resources in a distributed learning environment. Hawkins comments on the funding and support challenges academic libraries already face in a residential setting. Library support for a distributed learning environment calls for a new approach, and a cooperative effort among institutions will be necessary to provide the resources and services.
