Abstract

In September 2018 EDUCAUSE and Jisc convened a new working group of ten UK and U.S. IT leaders and challenged them to explore the question “How do we shape the future higher education IT workforce?” This report is intended to begin conversations within IT departments and at senior levels across higher education (HE) institutions so that they can begin strategizing how to shape an IT function that can attract, prepare, and retain high-caliber staff with the broad range of skills needed as we move into the future. It looks at the following questions:

 

  • How will HE IT teams need to evolve?
  • How can institutions shape the workforces they need?
  • How can institutions prepare for the future workforce?
  • How can institutions attract and keep talent?
  • How can institutions improve their recruitment practices?
  • How can institutions improve retention and grow staff careers?
